Steer has once again won big at a major awards ceremony, proving our continued excellence in the rail sector.
The Railway Innovation Awards 2023 have placed Steer in the #1 spot in the Operations and Performance category, for our project Manchester Task Force (MTF).
The project saw Steer support the effort to tackle the huge challenges posed by the May 2018 timetable changes, which saw significant performance impacts across Manchester, the wider Northwest region and other parts of the UK. At this time thousands of passengers were affected by cancellations and delays, with services across the network affected.
However, through Steer’s hard work as part of the MTF team, which was drawn from Network Rail, Department for Transport (DfT), Northern, TransPennine Express, Transport for Wales, Transport for the North and Transport for Greater Manchester, a new timetable was implemented at the end of 2022 which reduced delays by 40% and maintained passenger capacity at peak times.
Our research supported extensive public consultations as well as stakeholder and funder briefings, and the Incremental Investment Plan to support growth we designed was recently awarded £72 million by the Department for Transport.
We’re so proud to have played a part in improving rail travel in this vital area of the UK and are pleased to gain recognition for our work.
