María Alejandra is a civil engineer with a solid track record in the transport sector, specialising in the planning and evaluation of key infrastructure. Since joining Steer in 2011, after completing her master's degree at the Universidad de los Andes, she led the Infrastructure team for Colombia until September 2024, when she became the Head of the Bogota Office. Her experience spans a wide range of transport projects, including congestion charging schemes, master infrastructure plans, demand forecasting for railway, road, and integrated systems concessions, and technical due diligence for infrastructure transactions.
Throughout her career, she has been instrumental in the structuring and evaluating major private initiatives in Colombia, particularly her involvement in toll road projects and railway concessions. She has worked on the development of the Intermodal Master Plans for Colombia (PMTI), a strategic effort to enhance national connectivity, and on the development of 4G and 5G projects in the country. In addition, she has led mobility plans for cities such as Medellín, Manizales, and Pereira, contributing to improving infrastructure and urban mobility.
María Alejandra’s approach focuses on delivering solid and sustainable technical solutions that support the growth and modernisation of Colombia's transport system, while optimising decision-making processes in large-scale projects. Her ability to integrate technical, financial, and strategic aspects has established her as a leading figure in the country’s infrastructure sector.
